Known weak points
- Early OM651 piezo injector failures (2009-2010 Delphi units): rough idle, nailing and fuel leaking into the oil, replaced under service campaigns
- Timing chain and chain-tensioner wear at high mileage, heard as a rattle for a few seconds after a cold start
- Electronic steering lock (ESL/ELV) failure: key turns but the ignition will not switch on
- 7G-Tronic (722.9) conductor plate and valve body wear causing harsh shifts, limp home in one gear and torque-converter shudder
- EGR valve and intake sooting, with the engine light and frequent DPF regenerations on urban cars
- Front control arm bushings and rear subframe bushings wearing, felt as a clonk and vague steering
