Known weak points
- Turbocharger failure from oil sludge blocking the sump strainer and feed pipe; a turbo swap without flushing the sump fails again quickly
- Injector seal leaks (carbon build-up around the injectors), with a chuffing noise and diesel smell in the cabin
- EGR valve sticking, causing stalling at idle and hesitation when cold
- BSI body control unit glitches: random dashboard warnings, wipers or indicators misbehaving, often cured by a proper BSI reset or cleaning earths
- Front strut top mounts and drop links knocking over bumps, plus rear axle bearing play at higher mileage
- Anti-pollution fault message from a weak fuel pressure regulator or clogged fuel filter
